The myth of personality. The cult of, I, me, and mine!
-
I smell the rice and curry of Eastern thought .
Yes it is true, the concept of an egoless awareness is what is being proposed, however it should be common knowledge that one can not do
a weekend workshop and attain a state of 'enlightenment' or full objective awareness without the fierce intervention of a mad mind.
What can be done though, is this issue to be brought to the attention. Because knowing what needs to be done must surely be better than
not knowing.
-
The fact that the present moment is so utterly deceptive, elusive and ...well, ever present, makes it the very reason it gets overlooked.
There is only one moment, that is Now !
There is only one place and that is Here !
Oh yes so easy, so hard, so whats the story?
- The story is the illusory self behind it all!!
In this present moment as you read this the reality manifesting is, you are (presumably)seated, there is probably some sort of sounds in your ears, the words on a screen in your eyes etc.
Put simply; you are experiencing the world through your senses, but who is actually doing the experiencing??
1)A body? (one that pumps blood digests food and gets u into trouble with hormonal demands?)
2)A mind? (err do you need reminding just how mad this is?)
3)Me of course!! (um you will have to do better than that!)
It seems to be a catch 22, or a paradox. You are intensely feeling a sense of *I* but when the onion skin of reality is peeled back
one finds the shell to be empty. Damn, oh well *I* won't have to pay the next gas bill, will I?
- Doesn't matter how 'realistic' you want to be, and how much you argue for being in 'the real world' the fact remains,
the mind remains tricked by a combination of, 'accident conciousness' and the 'phoney self'
plus the real big guy, 'what everyone else is doing!'
Going along with everyone else of course! After all what else can you do? Very true, but if everyone else was burning their hands with fire,
would that justify it? Does this seem logical to you?
-
Yep,
-
No, but
move on regardless.
- Ok is there some way to, as you say, 'stay in the moment'?
There surely is, and it is as universal as the human condition. Heres a simplified version of an understanding you need.
- The way the mind works, is it needs something to focus on, every second of the day, something needs to be the object of your attention, and as a rule this focus is on the content of your mind,
which is the memories, fantasies and thoughts that generally revolve around what you desire, how you appear etc.
The good news is you can alter this situation right now, yep no batteries needed, its so simple its absurd.
The sensations of your own body. Also Your breath.
They are with you always, it is something that doesnt require the thinking process, it requires something quite different, 'Awareness'
Taken to its logical conclusion, one would live in a pure state whereby one would not have a preference for pleasure, or a rejection of pain, such a state does not actually require a personalities
involvement full stop. (of course this is the guru end of the spectrum, but it shows the possibility plus the condition to aspire too.)
- There is no attempt to downplay the difficulty of undertaking such a task, but because it is difficult, should not put you off trying. After all why remain in the present state
of agitation, unrest and subject to the ebb and flow of your own ever changing nature and unconcious behavior.
- Up till now this article has focused on accident conciousness, the way your own mind has played tricks on you and what to do about it. Now we can get down and dirty about some wacky way out theories, some links from whence some of this
information came from. So please come an see what puts the ' I ' in life.
